The classic adventure that started it all A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away . . . Luke Skywalker lived and worked on his uncle's farm on the remote planet of Tatooine—and he was bored beyond belief. He yearned for adventures out among the stars, adventures that would take him beyond the farthest galaxies to distant and alien worlds. But Luke gets more than he bargained for when he intercepts a cryptic message from a beautiful princess held captive by a dark and powerful warlord. Luke doesn't know who she is, but he knows he has to save her—and soon, because time is running out. Armed only with courage and with the lightsaber that had been his father's, Luke is catapulted into the middle of the most savage space war ever—and headed straight for a desperate encounter on the enemy battle station known as the Death Star. . . .

Theology and historiography often see the future as a realm open to new experiences and unexpected events. Yet for classical physics, the future was the result of the universe’s predictable development. Given enough information about current states, we could use the laws of nature to uncover the universe’s future. Modern space-time theory, with its picture of an invariant four-dimensional universe, only makes this problem more acute. Room for radically novel events, for miracles and new hope seems to have disappeared. It is this hope for something new that the German theologian Wolfhart Pannenberg seeks to preserve in his controversial work on time. To defend God’s supernatural freedoms and to escape natural determinism, Pannenberg invokes a medieval understanding of the unsurpassable and absolute power of God, using God’s potentia absoluta to reverse time’s flow and express absolute authority over creation’s progress. Time and all its contents are utterly subjected under the free will of a divine “all-determining reality”. But is this tenable for modern understandings of God and the universe? Or does it lead to theological difficulties and promote an arms race between the laws of nature and the rule of God? In this volume, Stephen Lakkis offers an analysis and critique of Pannenberg’s approach and suggests a different way forward.

The Advent of a New Hope For those who are battling with life's storm or on the verge of losing hope, this book is written to motivate and inspire you to ignite your praying powers. Fear not for you are not given the spirit of fear. In adversity, even Christians forget God's promises that He will never leave nor forsake you. From the diary and perspective of a widow, find out how Dr. Lilian I. Asomugha discloses her close walk with her maker, using her experience to inspire others. Through faithful prayers, believing and trusting in God, she was able to turn her adversity into advantage and her obstacles became her challenging opportunities to succeed in her quest. Her experiences and those of others that she encountered go beyond doubt to prove that prayer works and that in every adversity, God plants seeds of equal or greater benefit - for those who believe. Born and raised in Eastern Nigeria by her Christian parents, she came to the United States of America in the 1970's. She studied pharmacy in the University of Texas at Austin; and also received her doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine from the college of Naturopathy in Warsaw Indiana. Following the sudden death of her husband in 1994, the emptiness and hopelessness of adversity prompted her determination to be the best single parent for her children and to reach out to the afflicted. Her passion to share the goodness of God in times of adversity is her strength. As an entrepreneur-owner of New Hope Pharmacy, Inc., Dr. Lilian I. Asomugha is also a motivational writer/speaker, and a dynamic widow and mother of four children. She has founded and co-founded several non-profit support groups including the OWIN (Orphans and Widows In Need) Foundation, Inc., that caters for poor orphans and widows in Africa. "The first childhood memory I have of my father is linked to the destruction of empires--the collapse of a world order that had once seemed eternal." So begins Avraham Burg's authoritative and deeply personal inquiry into the ambitions and failures of Israel and Judaism worldwide. Born in 1955, Burg witnessed firsthand many of the most dramatic and critical moments in Israeli history. Here, he chronicles the highs and lows of his country over the last five decades, threading his own journey into the story of his people. He explores the misplaced hopes of religious Zionism through the lens of his conservative upbringing, explains Israel's obsession with military might while relating his own experiences as a paratrooper officer, and probes the country's democratic aspirations, informed by his tenure in the Knesset. With bravery and candor, Burg lays bare the seismic intellectual shifts that drove the country's political and religious journeys, offering a prophecy of fury and consolation and a vision for a new comprehensive paradigm for Judaism, Israel, and the Middle East.
