Living Life in Survival Mode

Living Life in Survival Mode

Life isn’t always easy. For me it is always like a roller-coaster. You have your ups and your downs and sometimes you feel totally upside down. Unlike a roller-coaster though, in life you have forks in the road that can lead to different avenues and life changing events. I have dealt with the loss of close friends and family members, but have also gained some along the way. I have had to make some diffi cult decisions that would change my life forever. This book is the story of my life so far. There are many strange, funny and challenging events that have happened along the way. I have written about a few lessons I have learned either from other people or the hard way. Hopefully by reading this story you can relate, laugh, be dumbfounded, or even learn something. I hope you enjoy reading about this adventure that I call my life.

Creating Calm in the Center of Crazy

Making Room for Your Soul in an Overcrowded Life

Creating Calm in the Center of Crazy

Are you working harder than ever but feel like you’re accomplishing less? Does your morning routine make chickens running around headless look sane? Is your deepest sense of calm found in the bathroom with the door locked? Do you check social media more than five times per day? Per hour? Author, speaker, and actor Nicole Johnson knows what it’s like to feel as if you’re drowning in crazy. When she couldn’t catch her breath or stay awake long enough to talk with her husband, let alone God, she sought to find new ways of “being” in her life. Creating Calm in the Center of Crazy is a voice of possibility and peace for women seeking to find a calm spiritual center in a crazy, runaway world. As a wife and mom of young children herself, Nicole recognized that life had become out of control. And, with the help of a crisis, she started her journey to create the very calm she was craving. Nicole’s voice is authentic, humorous, and practical, and at the same time deeply spiritual and real. She brings rich storytelling together with her desire to find calm, and in the process discovers a deeper faith. Her personal story grounds the book as she abandons mere tips and tricks (and the empty promises of time saving apps), to explore new practices — like creating a room of her own, setting technology boundaries, rediscovering the spiritual disciplines of quiet and still (they’re not bad words) — and then extending those practices to provide a safer, stronger refuge for calm to dwell. Nicole’s journey is shared with relatable stories, insightful help, and practical ideas that explore the inner life of a recovering crazy busy woman finding her way to calm and a deeper relationship with God.

Beyond Survival

Protecting Households from Health Shocks in Latin America

Beyond Survival

'Beyond Survival' breaks new ground in the ongoing debate about health finance and financial protection from the costs of health care. The evidence and discussion support the need to consider financial protection, in addition to health status, as a policy objective when setting priorities for health systems. This book reviews the Latin American experience with health reform in the last 20 years and the fundamentals of health system financing, using new evidence to show the magnitude and mechanisms that determine the impoverishing effects of health events (diseases, accidents, and those of the life cycle). It provides options for policy makers on how to protect, and help household to protect themselves, against this impoverishment. The authors use empirical evidence from six case studies commissioned for this report, on Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Honduras, and Mexico. This book provides policy makers with a solid conceptual basis for decisions on the contents of mandatory health insurance benefit packages, choices of financing mechanisms, and the roles of public policy in this field. 'Beyond Survival' provides an in-depth analysis of, and organizational alternatives for, risk pooling and health insurance for financial protection. It analyzes the urgent need to extend risk pooling to the informal sector, the challenges for current social insurance arrangements, and options for policy makers to effectively extend risk pooling to the informal sector.
